My city requires a lease agreement to start service but I don't have one yet - what do I do?

Background

Many cities require that renters provide proof that they actually reside in or otherwise occupy an address before the city will activate water service. That proof often comes in the form of a signed lease agreement (though some cities will accept alternate forms in some cases).

It's important to note the following:

  • Not all cities require a signed lease agreement.

  • Some cities require a signed lease agreement, but will only request it AFTER you have submitted an order for service through 2TurnItOn.

  • Some cities require a signed lease agreement, and ONLY allow you to submit an order for service through 2TurnItOn once you have one.

What do I do?

If you are trying to sign up for water on 2TurnItOn and your city requires a signed lease agreement before you can submit an order through 2TurnItOn, the best thing to do is to wait until you have a copy of the signed lease. Once you have that in hand you can apply for water service.

But won't that delay my water service activation?

Sometimes waiting for a signed lease can cause a delay so that the nearest activation date in 2TurnItOn is after your scheduled move-in date. Don't worry - we have a guide for how to handle that.
